if you reduce (via counting) your calories you'll lose weight, regardless of whether you're working out. Some of it will be fat, some will be muscle. The weight will take care of itself.
You can lose weight without doing cardio. Why you wouldn't want to improve your body's strength and endurance is beyond me. It sounds like you've got some skewed fitness knowledge and you don't understand how to cosmetically enhance your body with fitness.
