Pre/Post Workout food

Post by fxdemolisher » Tue Nov 13, 2007 3:47 am

Not sure if this is the right forum on simplefit for this question but...

I noticed that I get a little bit lightheaded and nauseous right after a workout. Especially once the heart rate comes down a bit. I am not sure if its because of a sudden lowering of blood pressure or not eating right before/after a workout.

I tend to workout about an hour after I wake up, before eating pretty much anything. I usually have a class of juice (100% fruit juice mix) or nothing before the workout and a full meal afterwards.

Can anyone recommend a strategy to avoid the comedown right after the workout?

Well, your likely out of fuel after your workout since you haven't eaten anything in 10 hours or more.

I work out in the mornings too but I always try to grab something to eat 30 minutes to an hour before I workout. It's the first thing I do when I wake up, I go down and eat and then come back upstairs and get ready for the day. After I workout I have a whey protein shake. If I don't have time to eat before I workout, I'll have a shake before and after I workout. After you workout your muscles are hungry for nutrients it's important to feed them at this time. But limit fat intake immediately post-workout, I forget why, but it hinders the aborption of protein or something like that.

Right you are splint the only time you possibly want to eat high gi low fat is post workout to spike insulin which will help shuttle nutrients to the muscles.
