Intermittent Fasting: Alternate-Day vs 6-8 hours/day

Hi. Thanks so much for your ideas!
The results of the article on Intermittent Fasting (Anson) to which you refer uses an "alternate-day" feeding regimen.
I was wondering how you conceived your plan of eating only 6-8 hours of every day. Was there another source of data or did you think that an alternate-day plan would maybe be too much??
In general, I'd be very interested in how you devised your plan (i.e. there are 1000's of diet/sports medicine studies published every year, how did you discover this one?). More background on your "story" would help inspire...

Hi, there is data that shows as little as a 18hr fast has an impact I will try to dig up the link.
The biggest influences meaning the stuff I tried and gave me the best results in order are:

18 hours fasting means a 6-hour window, as mentioned elsewhere on the forum. Got it. The 8-hour window on the nutrition page
was throwing me. Guess it's a bit harder than it looks ;)

O thanks for catching that I should fix it, you can do 10-6 to start, but 12-6 is more ideal.

I have heard good things but have not had time to go through the whole pdf. From what I have read it sounds good, Let me know what you think and how it differs from what I recommend. If is pretty exciting stuff.

He recommends a 5 hour feeding window. Basically eating from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM. I'm starting today. I don't have alot of time for breakfast or lunch most of the time, and it's virtually impossible for me to eat around 3:00 PM, I wind up just wolfing it down when I do try to eat then, so I think this will work out for me. I'll keep you posted. BTW the guy that wrote it is a Doc and he discusses the science of it too.

I just read the Fast 5 e-book. A good read to understand the human biochemistry. I'm gonna tray it. I don't know how if it makes that much difference whether your fast is 17, 18 or 19 hours as long as you give your body the oportunity to produce ketones from fat for energy instead of consuming glocose.

I agree with you, I don't know how much difference it makes. The thing that drew my attention was the 5-10 pm. I don't have time during the day to eat and I typically don't get home from work until 5 or 6 pm. So, from 5-10 pm is a perfect fit for me. I have always liked to snack in the evenings , but always felt guilty because of the whole "late night eating" stigma. I'm on day 2 today. I hope to lose about 30-40 lbs. The 5-6 small meals a day made me fat.
