Electronic body fat measurements

I have a set of bathroom scales with a electronic body fat measuring system built in. Somehow it works with electrodes that connect to the base of my feet.

I'm wondering if these are in any way accurate or even worth looking at?

The reason I ask is that mine have gone from 22% to 17% in just 3 weeks of improved diet and lvl 1 simplefit - this seemed unlikely to me.

So are they worth the metals used to make them or should I just ignore them?

Tho' not the best measurement device - I think you can believe the change. If you went from 12 to 7, that'd be different. 22 to 17 in 3 wks is doable if you are working hard and eating well...

Tape measure around your belly button is the best way to go outside of dexa, hydrostatic weighing, or calipers.

Actually those scales are useless. They use impulses to determine round trip calculations. So, if you drank a lot of water one day, and the next not a lot you will get 2 distinctive readings.

VBM, to lose that much body fat in 1 week, you would need to start at a higher BF%.

We did a grp weight loss program here at work. We used %BF as the base reading. So you could actually gain weight but your BF go down. I believe that it was for 8 weeks. I was using xfit at the time and in that 8 weeks, i went from 21% to 19%.

Even now, using a split between xfit and simplefit, 2 on 1 off, i went from 21% to 19% and that is with doing the zone diet and its been a little over a month.

Obviously your milage is going to vary, but to go from 22% to 17% i find it extremely hard to believe. Keving hit it on the head. waist at the navel minus wrist size. there is a chart to use so if you want post that number and your weight and i can tell you what it comes to.

I'm not too fussed - I don't want to end up obsessing ;)

But if you want to tell me how to work it out that would be interesting, my vitals are:

Waist: 82cm around
Wrist: 17cm around
Weight: 70Kg

Hmm... well I tried that site and either I'm in much worse shape than I thought or I did something wrong... 59% apparently :/

Sounds like it might be confusing inches for cm, or something along those lines. Did you change the weight designation to kilograms in box #1?

Doh. I entered my waist as 182cm for some reason... whoops.

Now it says 15% which I also don't believe - I can still grab a pinch of fat around my middle.

Guess I'll just have to not worry about this for now - at least I can ignore the scales :D

i actually come up with 14%. how tall are you? that might have something to do with it as well.

I checked my bodyfat with my electronic tester this A.M. 33%
Checked it after lunch - 5%

What a diet! HEHE

(It's in the garbage now)
