I just meant that I was *close* to getting the rhythm, but not completely. Still a bit jerky and eventually after just a few the whole thing breaks down.
Kipping is just using your whole body to get the pullup in a faster interval, thus creating more power and making the exercise into a much more full-body intensive workout.
