is kipping allowed, especially on D3?

imo, there's nothing wrong at all about kipping. More work in less time.

tx zorg, that's what i also thought.
right, so i did L1D3 this morning. now i know i've said before that i will only move to L2 once i can do L1D3 under 5 min's AND to 10 PULL-UPS. just out of curiosity (to see what my time would be), i did chin-ups this morning. i did 5 sets: 4; 2; 1 (this rep was with left palm facing away, right palm facing me, hence only the 1 rep); 2; 1.
the 21 push-ups i did in one go, as well as the 21 squats.
my time: 2 min's 50 sec's!!!!
boy, i was impressed.
i am very tempted to start with L2 next week, but (and not because i did chin-ups instead of pull-ups), i'll give L1 another bash next week just to make sure this morning's time wasn't a fluke.

Fantastic work!! I can't do 4 chin-ups in a row now. You certainly can move up with a time like that but I understand the need to make sure it was not a "fluke", I do the same thing. I'm sure it wasn't though so Congratulations! Not that I'm any authority but Zorg, VBM, and I had the discussion about kipping a while back and all thought it should not be a sub.

very good idea IMHO : I'm convinced it is counter-productive to try and move up the levels too fast.
Have fun with your workouts !

Congratulations! A time like 2'50" is not a fluke. I'd move up.

thanx for the comments guys - much appreciated.
i'll stay on lvl1 another week. after that i'll move to lvl2, which will be my third week training, which means the next week will be an "active rest" week, during which i'll do lvl1 again - for the last time!!!!

week 7, L1D1
32 rounds. this equals my PR in week 2.
what a workout though! i pushed myself big time and i can feel it my muscles and i expect that by tomorrow it will realy hurt.

my muscles didn't hurt as much as what i thought it would, but i could nevertheless felt that i had a good workout.
did L1D2 this morning - untimed. i concentrated purely on form and it was once again a good workout. still can't do pull-ups though, the left elbow wouldn't allow me to. over the weekend i made myself i a jig on which i can do neutral grip pull-ups. so i'm on that for now, as i feel chin-ups is too easy.
friday morning will be the all important D3! i'm feeling confidant though that i'll break the 5 min mark again, prooving that last week wasn't a fluke.
whatch this space in 48 hours' time!!!

I love your dedication for getting your workout right (I'm sure you'll get much more out of it if it's done correctly). I'm often too happy to cut corners but now I feel that I'd just be cheating myself and the other SFers here.
As for the pullups issue, after a few I'm not really able to get the height that I think's needed so I sub in some neutral grip ones which give my shoulders a bit of a break.
I'm sure you'll easily be sub 5mins for D3, but I guess only you'll know if you're happy with the form of your workouts.
Best of luck.

so i did L1D3 this morning:
10 pull-ups were done in three sets: 5; 3 and 2. again, i had to do nutral grips (going to see the physio tomorrow about my elbow) and my form perhaps wasn't the best.
21 push-ups and 21 squats were done in one go each.
time: 2min 5 sec's (viz last week's 2:50)
although i'm not doing proper pull-ups yet, i'll start with L2 next week. i'm happy with the progress i made in the last 7 weeks, both in strenght, form and fitness.
