Nethru's Log

Just started simplefit yesterday. I'm in pretty good shape so decided to start off at Level 5 to see how I do.

I'm 5'5", 155lbs and very active. I did a full 90 days of P90X and had good results but don't feel like working out 1 to 1 1/2 hours every day any longer so looked into this workout as well as adding some days of HIIT/Sprinting in the middle with a little dumbel training.

Week 1:
Level 5 Day 1 - 28 Rounds
Level 5 Day 2 - 4 min 20 secs
Level 5 Day 3 - 3 min 19 secs

Week 2:
Level 6 Day 1 - 29 Rounds
Level 6 Day 2 - 5 min 25 sec
Level 6 Day 3 - 4min 33 sec

Week 3:
Level 7 Day 3 - 25 Rounds

28 rounds is a good result.
I would say you picked the right level at which to start and that you'll be leveling up soon.

As I've been progressing over the weeks, I've been looking at the comparison charts noting that my random peers have on average better D1 rounds but I've done pretty good on D3. I have been wondering about those D2's.

nethru put up a great L6D1 beating my 23. I just did L6D2 in 4:44. Now I would have thought that nethru by virtue of the super L6D1 would have also beat me on D2. Not the case.

For me, that 3:00 minute rest is huge. nethru are you resting the entire time? I seem to get faster with each round going forward.

My guess for our respective D3's will be that you'll do much better than me because you'll need less recovery time to get through your pull-ups. I'd even guess you might break 5 minutes while I might linger on L6 a while.

Good luck on your next workout. I'll be curious about how it goes compared with mine.

I'm only taking about 30 second resists on my D2. I probably should take longer so I could push through the rounds faster for better time which would make more sense since I'm still fatigued when I'm going through the rounds right now. Looking at the numbers I think I will be able to make the 5 minute mark on Day 3 but only time will tell.

Good luck on your Day 3 smooth :)

Good post smooth!

I only recently resumed timing my Day 2s, including timing the rest.
I find myself well-rested after 3 minutes.
If I rest only 2 minutes, the next round gets a lot harder, but I can get through it.
Perhaps I'll try reducing the rest yet further in an effort to improve my Day 3 performance as you describe.

To rest, or not to rest: that is the question.

Thanks cheapo.

The amount of rest on D2 raises an interesting question. Does one adhere to the 3 minute rest period or does one try to push through a bit quicker with the idea that you'll be better prepared for D3? D2 is considered a strength day, but if you reduce your rest time it turns into a shorter but strenuous endurance day (D1).

I'm not sure what to think. I like the idea preparing for D3's on shorter rest, but I can see the value in resting as well. I don't want my form to deteriorate to the point where it will hurt my strength day workout. And I know it would if I reduced my rest period.

Ultimately, it's probably up to our bodies to tell us what to do. Rest. Not rest. Probably different for everyone.

Sorry about the log hijack, nethru.

i say that in advance, cause this is a very interesting topic for me as well.

i only saw D2 as a pure strength day and didn't pay must attention to workout/rest time. having read smooth and cheapo's posts though, i might adjust my approach to D2.

the common thread here is rest time in order to improve your D3 result. what i found works best for me to improve my time on D3, is to have two days rest before doing D3.

in stead of: Mon D1; Wed D2; Fri D3; i do: Mon D1; Wed D2; Sat D3.

you'll be amased at what a difference the two day's rest makes before you tackle D3!

I used to do M-W-F, but my schedule made Friday difficult and so I switched to Saturday mornings. It does make a difference! (Although staying up too late on Friday night counteracts any advantage. :( )

Level 6 Day 3 - 4min 33sec

Don't think I'll be getting thru level 7 in one week Day 3 in Level 7 looks like it will be hard to do in 5 minutes.

Nice!

My daughter took a pic of me after my Level 6 Day 3 workout all pumped-up LOL.

I do other things besides Simplefit. My normal routine is:

Sun: Dumbell Circuit Training 3 Rounds / 5 Min of Sprinting / Ab workout
Mon: Day 1 Simplefit
Tue: Dumbell Circuit Training 3 Rounds / 5 Min of Sprinting / Ab workout
Wed: Day 2 Simplefit / 5 rounds of Blurpee 15 down to 10
Thur: Rest
Fri: Day 3 Simplefit / 40 Mins Yoga
Sat: Rest

Works out pretty well and each day except for Friday is only about 20 minutes.
