Kurt's Log

This will be my 6th week doing Simple Fit. I did not have much trouble with earlier levels, but now that I am at Level 5 it is getting challenging. Pushups are harder than the pull-ups for the first time! Anyways, I essentially completed one level a week with one break to pig out in New Orleans after level 4. I did not completely understand when to move on from day 3, so I probably advanced past level 4 a little early.

I am 6' and about 155lbs. I recently lost about 10lbs on a Paleo diet I started in February. I have not been physically active in about 7 years; the last time being high school when I played various sports. I have some bad knees I guess so I started running in Vibrams in December, but my IT band has slowed me down dramatically. Now I am working on Simple Fit to get back in shape, get ready for a Hawaii trip in July, and to also work on strengthening my legs to get back into running.

L5D1Week1: 17 rounds
L5D2W1: 1:10, 1:16, 1:47, 2:20, 2:55
L5D3W1: 10:18

Great to have another Kurt here. That is a terrific start! Leveling up this fast after a seven year break shows that you've got a very impressive foundation. Staying injury-free is the critical thing now.

Thank you for the encouragement! Yeah, injuries worry me. I may take level 5 slow to ensure my form is good (I am pretty sure it is) especially in regards to the squats. I have incorporated some leg to leg hopping and side shuffling to hopefully improve my knees and IT Band.

L5D3W2: 7:47! Two and a half minutes faster! Pull-ups were pretty challenging after 16. I managed to almost completely do the squats without breaking which shaved off a good amount of time.

huge increase in speed! Very consistent compared to last time. 2 minutes shaved off.

Level5Day1Week4: 21 rounds in 19:38
This was the first time it felt like I struggled through each exercise equally, so there was not one particular exercise slowing me down. I think I will throw in a few extra push ups and pull ups after completing days 2 and 3 in hopes of advancing a little faster.

L5D1W5: I did 14 rounds in 10 minutes, so I was definitely on my way to beating last week, but I had to stop. I workout outdoors with little shade and today it was 100 degrees by the time I got out there at 12:30P. I gotta get out there much earlier as it heats up, unfortunately I bartend on the weekends and don't get home until 4am so my sleep schedule is all off. With school ending tomorrow, I should be able to reorganize my schedule better though. Might as well make this my easy week, since I have not done one of those in a while.

That's a pretty impressive result in that heat. Just keeping your grip on the pull-up bar becomes a significant challenge when you're sweating that much.
