17 Jul 2011

bouldering for about 2 hours. I'm only a V1 or V2 level so pretty sucky at it. But damn it will work your fingers.

Today

4.5 mile run. slow run to see if I could put some distance on. time was 38:09. heat was a big factor.

3 rounds FT

25 lbs OHS 10 reps
25 double unders

Two of my really weak points (or exercises that really piss me off). Actually did ok with it today. OHS completed without stopping which is a huge step for me. Double unders were difficult. However, I actually completed 4-5 rounds of doubleunders with a 4:1 ratio of singles. Normally I get one doubleunder then 4 rounds of singles and on 2nd attempt promptly end up getting spanked by the rope somewhere on my body. Still happened a lot today and there are a lot of welts on me but I feel good about the amount of them I did. Also numerous fails which I didn't count. So minimum I've done 75 double unders and 300 singles.

total time was 18:39

"Manion" pack attempt
5 rounds FT
400 metre run
95 lbs squat 29 reps

This one sucked. ran at lvl 7.0 0 deg incline. broke squats up in sets. I actually lost count of the rounds and am not sure if I was on 4 or 5. however, on the last round I could only do 21 squats. started getting really lightheaded. But I went and did the 400 meter run. Attempted the squats again and the lightheadness got worse. no vertigo or dizziness but very disconcerting. So called it quits.

Took 27:30 to complete.

workout was supposed to be 7 rounds of weighted pushups today. No one to assist so did Bench Press

1- 135
1- 145
1- 155
1- 165
1- 175
1- 185
1- 195 sudden onset of lower back spams while doing this lift but resolved quickly
1- 205 failed. mad about this as I felt I should be able to lift no problem based on the previous lifts

practiced one arm pushups at 45 deg angle and did the wheel of death a few times.

decided to retry Cindy and get past ten rounds.

AMRAP 20 min

5 pullups
10 pushups
15 squats

Pretty upset when I got done. I did 9 rounds + 5 pullups, last time did 9 rounds + 4 pushups. I'm sure I worked a lot harder this time and think I miscounted on the last one. Not sure though. ah well. This time pushups were again the problem child. pullups were not bad. all dead hang, minimal kipping. only stopped once during the last round of pullups to regrip so I think went pretty good.

Skill work today. Kind of a rest day.

One arm pushup progressions- basically started on squat rack doing one rep each arm and moving bar down each time.
pistol progressions- started on seat a little higherthan would make my legs parallel then moved to seat that would move it parallel. approx 2 reps per round did several not sure how many
jump rope- practiced double unders, getting pretty good at 4 singlets then a double. having a hard time doing a continuous double. tried to practice sid-straddle hops and kept banging my fingers on the rope (exquisite pain). did reverse jump rope. pretty challenging. kept catching my right foot. I find jump rope to be a frustrating exercise and typically want to throw it through the nearest window the more I do it. sigh.

total time was about 40 minutes inc warmup

"JT"

21-15-9 FT

HSPU (progressions)
Dips
pushups

Started out well actually was more vertical on progressions using a squat rack bar this time. I burned out very quickly though and pretty much was going to one rep movements somwhere in 2nd round. I thought I could do better. Decided that if I continued it would just be a slog fest and not get anywhere. Interestingly I did this some time ago and did the same workout and quit at the end of the 2nd round also but injured my thumb. I remember that one being hard but definitely not going to one rep movements and having to rest so much. Kinda pissed off at this cause i SHOULD have done better.

AMRAP FT

Squats - 3
Pushups - 2
Pullups - 1

44 rounds + 1 squat.

Reverse of L1D1. This is Rung 1 of Crossfit beginner stuff. Mostly the goal was to see if I was doing everything correctly and attempt to complete 20 minutes comfortably without rest. Went well. not really fatigued.

03 aug 2011

Went to first Krav class since shoulder injury. Was pretty enjoyable. A buttload of calisthenics. Basically we did rounds of sprints where you jog from point to point touching floor at each end 30 seconds or so. then in between each round of that we did exercises. Went something like this:

sprints
Half-squat position: everyone stays in position, guy on far right does 5 regular squats, then next guy and so on till all complete five squats.
sprints
dive-bomber position: same thing as above but 5 dive bombers
sprints
bear crawl around the room
sprints
reverse bear crawl around the room
sprints
rocker position: basically everyone was lined up and while legs and torso off the ground had to pass 20 lbs ball up and down the line.
sprints
100 burpees

I was sweating pretty good on this one. Felt pretty good though cause I was third in completion of burpees after all that. there was a total of 12 guys. total time was 45 minutes. Then 45 minutes of krav. good stuff.
