Mike's log

Post by bluehose32 » Tue Jul 03, 2007 9:46 am

Hey everyone. Just started Simplefit yesterday. I am 29 years old, almost 30. I am 5'10" and weigh 190 lbs. I have gained a lot of weight in the last 2 years . I hope this program will give me strength, endurance and change my current physique.

Day 1, Level 1 - 18 rounds

I was somewhat disappointed with my results, but I was really sweating at the end of the workout, so it must have been good!

Questions:

I was able to do pullups during the the first 10 rounds, but couldn't do anymore. However, there is a machine at the gym that assists with the pullups. I put it on the lowest setting (50 lbs) and was able to do the last 8 rounds. Is this OK or do I need to stop once I am unable to continue with regular pullups?

Also, I was really being deliberate and paid close attention to my form during each round. Should I be less concerned with that and just try to do as many rounds as quickly as possible?

Welcome!

A lot of us use subs. The general consensus is that, when you do, you do 3 subs for 1 "real." There are some threads with extensive discussion about using body rows and negatives. It is really up to you. You are doing a workout that's just a good suggestion (a real good suggestion), but it is open to interpretation and your specific needs.

You won't "fail" and get "kicked-out" no matter what you do. Just do something!

By the way 18 rounds of L1D1 is a good start. Many of us started without doing a single pullup. Hang in there!

Welcome! You can actually do pullups?!?!? Wow, that must be nice! :) I wouldn't worry about only getting through 18 reps... you did your reps with Real Pullups(tm).

I still can't do a single deadhang pullup.

The crew here is very helpful and supportive. It's great to have you!

10 min, 40 sec

I was so sore I couldn't do any pullups without some aid. Hopefully, I will do better today.

Level 1, Day 3

7 min, 40 sec.

Soreness really effected my ability to do pushups. I had to use the machine at the gym for assistance.

Looks like I will be on level 1 for a couple of weeks.

Hi Bluehose

The soreness should ease off after a week or two. Don't be afraid to take it easy for the first few weeks while your body adjusts. Better to do that then get discouraged.

Goodluck

Welcome, again. :) And look at it this way... now you will be able to see the improvement as you do Level One the second time. I think i was on Level One for 3 weeks.

Level 1, Day 1 (2nd week)

Post by bluehose32 » Thu Jul 12, 2007 1:14 pm

14 reps in 20 mins

Did the 3:1 ratio for pullups on the pullup machine at the gym. I feel lucky to be able to use this equipment because it allows me to perform a pullup naturally, with full range of motion. I guess my the goal will be to lower the weight for assistance every week. I really thought I would be better at these pull ups. They are really hard!!!!!!
