9/1/07 workout

I decided to go straight to test day even though I missed my strength workout this week and did a modified endurance workout. After two days of icing and resting my elbows, I wanted to see if I could handle pull-ups with a parrallel grip. So..

wk.3, L3D3 in 5:54

pull-ups went 7-5-4 and no pain! Closing in on 10 in a row, despite elbows!
push-ups 22-11
squats as rxed.

I'm taking the time improvement over last week with a grain of salt. I only did 2 workouts this week, so I was well rested.

Proper rest is as important as training, great job and keep it up!

O.k. for my so-called rest week (yeah, right) I've decided to revisit L1.

So.. L1D1, 48 rds. in 19:52. I was shooting for 50 but ran out of time, obviously. I'm pretty pleased though. This is 2 more rounds then my 22 year-old son did the first time he tried L1D1. So I only had to train my butt off for 3 months to beat his first effort. Youth is wasted on young people. He eats junk food all day and works out sporadically whenever the mood strikes, so he'll probably hop out of bed and do 60 rounds just to tick me off. And I'll cheer loud and long if he does. He's a great kid.

The parallel grip pull-up is saving my life right now. Any other kind is just too painfull.

My better half has started up again and did a slightly modified L1D1. She did 3 bodyrows, 3 push-ups on her knees (not a full substitution, but push-ups are hardest for her) and 3 squats. She's improved a lot too, despite inconsistency. 40 rds. in less then 20 minutes!! Great, now I have to work harder just to keep up with the women, not to mention the young bucks. :shock: Oh well..

9/5/07 workout

The wife and I both did L1D2 today.

I did all movements while wearing a 15# day-pack. My time: 4:02 Afterwards, I still had lots of energy (!), so I did some core work: 5 L-hangs, 10 ab-roller type movements only on rings lowered almost to the ground & 10 stand-ups while holding a 20# medicine ball. I didn't time my core work, just tryed to hold the L-hangs for 5 seconds each, the same with the ab-rollers.

Wifey finished in 4:53. She subbed 6 body-rows at a steeper angle then normal, half her push-ups were on her knees, the other half on her toes, the last 3 squats of every set she was holding the 20# ball.

gotta go.

My workout today was called 'landscaping'. I moved a ton and a half of rock twice. Once into my vehicle, and once onto a 200 square foot xeriscaped area of my yard. It took about 10 hours.

When I was done, I was sufficiently warmed up to tackle L1D3, test day. My goal was to get all three exercises done with one set each, and no rest between sets. The pullups went 9 & 1, but I did the pushups and squats as rx'ed. Total time: 1:46!!

Maybe I should warm up for 10 hours more often! :lol:

I'll say this, that since starting simplefit, tasks that use to be physically draining are still a physical challenge, but I recover a LOT faster and feel less soreness. Something to be said for that 10 hours.

Dittos to that! Shoveling sucks, but it feels good when you know you couldn't shovel as much in the recent past.

A 10-hour warm-up. Is this Sparta?! I would have just called that my workout and went to bed. At least it wasn't before Day 1. Good job!

Andy,

I was very surprised first of all, that I had the energy for L1D3, and then that I cruised through it as fast as I did. However. I am feeling it today. Mild soreness everywhere, but especially my elbows. I'm gonna take it easy today and tomorrow and maybe lift a little Sunday, since I have to be at work anyway.

Good point! I don't think I would have tried days 1 or 2 after yesterday. But I had to get day 3 out of the way because I don't have access to a parallel grip pullup bar at work. And I was already dirty and sweaty, so what the heck.

I noticed you're just down the road in 'Collins. I'm in Cheyenne so we're neighbors!

Oh, and thanks Urup, it's always nice to get attaboys!
