I aggrevated an old back injury and my Dr. said I should lay off squats for 2 months. He said pull ups and push ups were great for my back but I need to find a subsitution for squats for a couple of months. Any suggestions?

Do what he says. Do allot of walking instead that is decent exercise and usually helps the back, check with him on that to confirm it is ok.

So I should do the pull-ups and push-ups and skip the squat section for a while?

Yeah, if your doc says it is cool, maybe sub elliptical, I commented on you interval post that should work great.

Hmm, not trying to second-guess your doc or anything, I'm just curious to know what kind of back injury requires laying off squats? What part of your back is used in a squat? There's no pressure or bending anywhere? Anyoneable to shed some light on it?

Hey -

Glutes tie in to the back.

Listen to your Dr.

Ah, got it.

Kept checking my back during todays squats, and I can see some forms of lower back pain where squats could be trouble

I'm not a doctor or medically trained, but was it a GP or a doctor that specialises in sports injuries? Many GPs get very little training on this sort of injury and how exercise affects it.

Also, did you specify that these were not weighted squats? Most people when they hear squats think of weights on your shoulders.

It was a chiropractor.
