Week 65
    Monday, June 22, 2009
    D1L7:
      18 rounds PR (-11 cf. previous D1L6, -11 cf. previous L6 PR)

I really wanted to get my first Level 7 workout under my belt, and that I have done. My result shows a certain lack of motivation, which I think is due to not wanting to set the bar too high: it would be a bummer to get, say, 25 rounds on my first D1L7 followed by 20 rounds on the next D1.

Still 18 rounds of D1L7 gives 72 pull-ups, which is only 15 less than the 87 I managed in my 29 round D1L6 PR.

4 pull-ups is enough for me to try kipping, but not really enough to "find" my kip (it usually takes me 5 or 6 reps to get kipping smoothly), so these 4 pull-ups are my least efficient.

Sets of 8 push-ups become hard very quickly.

    D2L7:
      Untimed.

8 pull-ups is enough that I should be able to get my kip going.
      Too bad I can't!
    Saturday, June 27, 2009
    D3L7:
      9'45" PR (+4'53" cf. previous D3L6, +4'53" cf. L6PR)
      Pull-ups: 40 (20-8-4-4-2-2)
      Push-ups: 80 (20-10-10-10-10-10-5-5)
      Squats: 80 (30-20-20-10)

I did manage to get my kip going here, sorta. Good, but not great. It was also encouraging to find myself able to kip on the second set. Up til now, I've always exhausted myself in the first set.

Week 66
    Monday, June 29, 2009
    D1L7:
22 rounds PR (+4 cf. previous D1L7, +4 cf. previous PR)

I had better luck with kipping today.

      A comparison:
      L6D1 PR
      = 29 sets × (3 × pull-up, 6 × push-up, 10 × squat)
      = 87 pull-ups, 174 push-ups, 290 squats

      L7D1 PR
      = 22 sets × (4 × pull-up, 8 × push-up, 12 × squat)
      = 88 pull-ups, 176 push-ups, 264 squats
      = 101% of L6D1 pull-ups and push-ups and 91% of L6D1 squats

So, except for squats, I've equalled my PR for L6, which is super cool, because, while today was a challenging workout, it did not feel as hard as 29 rounds of L6D1.

      Photos.

    D2L7:
      Untimed.

Kipping is getting better, but these proper kips are harder than the cheat-y kips I was doing before!
    Saturday, July 4, 2009
    D3L7:
      Skipped.

Mom visiting, many things to do and places to go.

    Wednesday, July 8, 2009
    D2L7:
      Untimed.

      Rushed home from work.
      Worked out without warmup.
      Barbecued sausages between sets.
Fed son dinner. (Was breathing too heavily to eat, myself.)
Off to little league baseball game with son and wife.
      Played catch with wife.
Also played a little catch with son.
    Saturday, July 11, 2009
    D3L7:
8'20" PR (-1'25" cf. previous D3L7, -1'25" cf. previous PR)
      Pull-ups: 40 (20-10-3-3-2-2)
      Push-ups: 80 (20-14-6-6-5-5-5-5-5-5-4)
      Squats: 80 (40-20-20)

Shaved off a decent amount of time!
I could have used better form.
The drive to make a better time (at the expense of form) is very strong.

It has been sunny here for the past few days, after almost a month of rain, clouds, and fog. What a joy!

Nice work fellow Dartmouthian! Couldn't even imagine the rigors of a L7. That weather did truly suck the life out of me. We better get a decent "rest o' the summer" or I might have to move!

      Back on the horse.
      Push-ups are hard.

How's the progress going?

Weeks 78 - 83

Week 78 - 82
    Skipped.
    Soo-o-o-o-o-oooooo-ooo-o busy.
Week 83
    Monday, October 19, 2009
    D1L1:
58 rounds PR (+22 cf. previous D1L1, 22 cf. previous PR)

Having missed just over a month, and having been less than consistent in the two months prior, I decided I should start over.
    Wednesday, October 21, 2009
    D2L1:
      Skipped.
    Saturday, October 24, 2009
    D3L1:
1'01" PR (-2'57" cf. previous D3L1, -2'57" cf. previous PR)
      Pull-ups: 10 (10)
      Push-ups: 21 (21)
      Squats: 21 (21)

      One minute, one second LOL.

      Onward to L2!

Week 84
    Monday, October 26, 2009
    D1L4:
37 rounds PR (+12 cf. previous D1L4, +12 cf. previous PR)

I had planned to work my way up through the levels from 1 back up to 7, but I decided that I didn't want to do Levels 2 and 3, because, while they increase the push-ups and squats, they pull-ups stay the same. This would result in me doing fewer pull-ups than last week on Day 1 Level 1.
    Wednesday, October 28, 2009
    D2L4:
      Untimed.
First Day 2 in aaaaaaaaages. Wasn't very hard. If I win Day 3 this (I damn well better!), I'll be jumping up to Level 6. It took me 6 months to beat Level 6 last time. I hope it takes far less time this go-round.

    Saturday, October 31, 2009
    D3L4:
2'14" PR (-2'14" cf. previous D3L4, -2'14" cf. previous PR)
      Pull-ups: 20 (20)
      Push-ups: 41 (31-5-3-2)
      Squats: 41 (41)

      Zoink.

Week 85
    Monday, November 2, 2009
    D1L6:
25 rounds (-4 cf. previous D1L6, -4 cf. previous PR)
      Image

(Sorry for the messy drawing.) It shows that my recent spate of PRs has come to an end and that my level of fitness and the intensity of the workout have reached a balance.
    Wednesday, November 4, 2009
    D2L6:
      Skipped.

    Saturday, November 7, 2009
    D3L6:
      6'50" (+2'58" cf. previous D3L6, +2'58" cf. previous PR)
      Pull-ups: 32 (22-4-2-2-2)
      Push-ups: 64 (31-5-3-2)
      Squats: 64 (41-?-?)

I did the pull-ups in a minute, but it took 4'20" to do the push-ups. They absolutely killed me!

Week 88

Week 88
    Monday, November 23, 2009
    D1L6:
26 rounds (+1 cf. previous D1L6, -3 cf. previous PR)

      Another multi-week layoff.
      Oh, life.
    Wednesday, November 25, 2009
    D2L6:
      Skipped.

    Saturday, November 28, 2009
    D3L6:
      6'50" (-0'25" cf. previous D3L6, +2'33" cf. previous PR)
      Pull-ups: 32 (20-4-3-3-1-1)
      Push-ups: 64 (25-10-5-6-3-3-3-3-3-3-3)
      Squats: 64 (40-24-7-3)

I need to stop skipping D2.
Without D2, my ability to do more than 20 push-ups, or to do more than 10 push-ups in sets done after the first, is reduced.

      Push-ups: 64 (16-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-4-2)
      Squats: 64 (40-16-8 )

      Tough.
But good to be back at it.
