I played the first game of my first ever hockey tournament last night.
Of the 15 guys on our roster, I had only played with 4 or 5 before, so, when I entered the changing room, I was sizing everyone up, nervously anticipating meeting the gaze of the guy who would know I had no place there...
But it didn't go like that. The team's organizer/coach asked me to be assistant manager which meant I was charged with collecting $50 from each player and with filling out the game sheet. That was cool, because it gave me the chance to meet a lot of the guys, which put me at ease.
The game was fast. We were outpaced and outclassed. The clock was left running once we were down by 5 points and the score wasn't updated after we were down by 6 or 7. After the game there was beer in the change room and upstairs in the rink's clubhouse. Two beer and a slice of pizza put me well over my Lose It! calorie budget for the day, but it was worth it.
I do it all again tonight.
