My name is Joe. I'm currently 310 lbs, down from 400 a couple of years ago. I was down to about 270 but got lazy and gained a bit of it back.
I turned 30 this month and have been ramping up my activity level lately and have been doing much better on my diet. It's not perfect, but I'm not looking for perfection at this point, I'm looking for consistency that I can count on.
I just recently (two weeks ago) moved within walking distance to work (2.5 miles) and have been walking to work every day, sometimes jogging (maybe 1/4 of the time). I had been living with my dad before the move which made things a bit hard. I love my pops, but living with him at 30 was just kind of depressing. Now I'm living with my girlfriend and we have a nice little apartment with a good little kitchen and I can get back to cooking home cooked meals rather than relying on frozen pizzas and nuked dinners. In the past two weeks every aspect of what I've been doing has improved.
I lost all my weight previously due pretty much all to cardio. I got big in to cycling and I still love it, but I don't get the chance to do it as often as I like. Maybe once a week on the weekends, if I'm lucky.
So I'm looking to get in to actually doing weighted exercises to push me over the hump I'm currently on. I found this site somehow and figured that since I'm pretty broke and already own a pull up bar that I'd give this a go, especially after seeing some of the transformations on this site.
Although most people are going from pretty good shape to rockin shape, I'm looking to go from fat to pretty good, and see where I get from there. I'm really not obsessed with my body or with having abs or anything, I just want to get in shape as I've got a serious girlfriend and the prospect of marriage and children is looming ever closer. I don't want my future kids to have a fat lazy dad. Fat lazy dads make fat lazy kids and that's just not fare to the kids. Hopefully they won't be around for a couple more years, but even then, I want to be around for them as long as I can. So i suppose that this is my main motivation: I want to have kids, I'm going to have kids bit older than most people I know, and I want to be able to keep up with them and not be a lazy blob when they're young.
So I have found consistency in my walking/jogging to work every day, and I'm going to be adding three days a week of this in to the mix. If I can't spare 20 min three times a week then there's really something wrong with me. I'm hoping that this combined with my jogging and cycling will start pushing things in the right direction for me. I hope to keep y'all updated on my progress.
