Week 52 (1 Year!)
  • Monday, March 23, 2009
    D1L6:
    • 27 rounds PR (+1 cf. previous D1L6, +1 cf. previous PR)

15 reps in the first 10 minutes.
      12 in the second.
    Wednesday, March 28, 2009
    D2L6:
    • Untimed.

      Chest to bar every time.
Good deep push-ups...but could be deeper.
    D3L6:
    • Skipped

A weak end to my first year of SimpleFit. Too bad.

Sure feels that way!
I have a hard time believing it after my 8-month Level 5 marathon!
This level really seems to be working for me.
All 3 exercises are challenging at this level.
I am seeing improvements in body composition and appearance (if I do say so myself).
It is quite fun!
That said, I am working harder than ever before too.

Week 53

Post by cheapo » Wed Apr 01, 2009 4:22 pm

Week 53
  • Wednesday, April 1, 2009
    D1L6:
    • 22 rounds (-5 cf. previous D1L6, -5 cf. PR)

      Not a great performance.
I have been hit with a low-grade intestinal bug.
Today was the first day in more than a week where I did not experience some abdominal pain.
Also, I was super-stressed about something, to the point where I was distracted.
Oh, and I was distracted by the kids arguing over dinner in the next room.

There. I've used all my excuses.
      I can't use them anyomore!
      (Right...!)

    D3L6:
    • 7'46" (+0'27" cf. previous D3L6, +0'27" cf. PR)
      Pull-ups: 32 (12-5-3-3-3-3-2-1)
      Push-ups: 64 (26-10-8-6-6-4-4-1)
      Squats: 64 (40-24)

      Stomach is getting better.
I felt OK to work out, but I knew things were off to a rough start when I couldn't equal
(or even get close to) last week's first set of pull-ups
(last week: 16, this week 12).

Bah! Working out while sick is pretty tough. No reason to seek excuses.

Hey Cheapo,

Great progress. I have a feed of Flickr photos for those tagged with "fitness" and I see your photos come through every now and then. Great job. In case you or anyone was wondering, I still do Simplefit. I just don't log much anymore. I try to keep myself at Level 6 type fitness. My D1 is about 25 rounds and D3 is 8 minutes or so. I took some time off and did some strength training and put on some muscle. Push-up and pull-up stamina took a bit of a hit though.

Colour me flattered. It is nice to know someone other than fans of this site (NSFW) is seeing my photos.

I know I have wondered.
Do you have any other physical pursuits?

Lol, gay massage stole your photos. Hey, I think I'd be flattered.

Over the winter I went for more of a bodybuilding style of routine for a couple of months. I put on a few pounds of muscle but some fat too (diet not as good as it should be). I've gotten back into crossfit to trim down a bit for the summer. But I always try to throw a Simplefit workout in several times a month, just to make sure I don't lose that unique level of fitness that I built up doing the program.

Week 56

Post by cheapo » Mon Apr 20, 2009 2:41 pm

Week 54
  • Rest Week
I deserve a week off after a year of SF.
Week 55
  • Rest Week
Big deadline at work messed with my schedule.
Week 56
  • Monday, April 20, 2009
    D1L6:
    • 24 rounds (+2 cf. previous D1L6, -3 cf. PR)

Things got kinda hectic these last two weeks.
The project I have been working on for the past 18 months was winding up.
I kept thinking there was just one or two more days of work left...
and then I'd find something else that needed doing
(or someone would find it for me!)

The job finally went out the door Friday morning.
I am back at SF today.

      New photos.
    Wednesday, April 22, 2009
    D2L6:
    • Untimed

Day 2 out of the way.
Now to focus on and gear up for D3!
    Saturday, April 25, 2009
    D3L6:
    • 7'53" (+0'07" cf. previous D3L6, +0'34" cf. PR)
      Pull-ups: 32 (12-5-3-3-3-2-2-2)
      Push-ups: 64 (21-10-8-6-6-5-4-2)
      Squats: 64 (42-12-10)

      Worse than the preceding week...again!
I had my kipping trouble again.
Instead of a compact, mechanical "unfolding" of my body up to the bar,
I wind up swinging back and forth on the bar.
Completing pull-ups with this motion happening uses up my biceps super quickly.

Week 57

Week 57
  • Monday, April 27, 2009
    D1L6:
    • 26 rounds (+2 cf. previous D1L6, -1 cf. PR)

      Good workout.
1 set shy of my PR.
Setting that benchmark was hard work, but I had no idea it would be this tough to beat!

      New photos.

    Saturday, May 2, 2009
    D3L6:
    • 7'29" (-0'24" cf. previous D3L6, +0'10" cf. PR)
      Pull-ups: 32 (8-6-4-4-3-3-2-2)
      Push-ups: 64 (22-10-8-7-4-3-3-3)
      Squats: 64 (32-?-?)

      Gah!
      Still can't kip properly!
I just seem to forget how!

Week 58

Week 58
  • Monday, May 4, 2009
    D1L6:
    • 28 rounds (+2 cf. previous D1L6, +1 cf. PR)

      Good, hard workout.

      New photos.

I usually focus on form and a full range of motion on D2,
but after my trouble with kipping on D3,
I figured I would be well advised to try to figure out how to kip
or else face another frustrating D3 result.

      I succeeded.
It turns out I was underestimating how much movement kipping involves.
On previous D3s, I have found that I was swinging too much
and I easily wasted 5 or 6 pull-ups worth of strength trying to bring the swinging under control.
This time I "rode the wave" and found that the swinging energy was
exactly what drives the kip, you just have to direct it the right way.
      Neato.
    Saturday, May 9, 2009
    D3L6:
    • 5'23" PR (-2'06" cf. previous D3L6, -1'56" cf. PR)
      Pull-ups: 32 (18-3-3-3-3-2)
      Push-ups: 64 (26-10-6-6-6-6-4)
      Squats: 64 (40-10-14)

Kipping got me 18 pull-ups in my first set, but I couldn't kip in any of the following ones.

Still, kipping shaved more than two minutes off my time!

Week 60

Post by cheapo » Wed May 20, 2009 3:05 pm

Week 60
  • D1L6:
    • Skipped.

      It was a holiday Monday.
I spent Saturday and Sunday crack filling and sanding.
I spent Monday that way too.
    Wednesday, May 20, 2009
    D2L6:
    • Untimed

Still trying to perfect my kipping.
I think it is getting better.

      New photos.
    Saturday, May 23, 2009
    D3L6:
    • 5'40" (+0'17" cf. previous D3L6, +0'17" cf. PR)
      Pull-ups: 32 (18-4-3-3-2-2)
      Push-ups: 64 (16-10-10-5-5-4)
      Squats: 64 (39-9...lost count...2)

I had trouble "finding" my kip.
