Hey VBM, that's great! She deserves to be congratulated. I keep trying to convince my wife to give crossfit a shot but she's convinced it's too hard - she's once of the people who's first exposure to crossfit was seeing the hardcore navy-seal types screaming, sweating and puking. I keep telling here about simplefit and scaled WODs and the great supportive community, but she's not buying it

I also want to clarify a bit since I sound like i'm totally anti-hardcore. I think seeing guys like that gives the rest of us something to aim for (2:39 Fran? I wish!) I just think that they scare away a lot of newcomers.

I'm getting my wife to try out thrusters, db presses, situps, pushups and squats; mostly in Tabata combinations. She's working out not too regular, but that's mostly due to her up to 70-hour-week at work, I guess. Still, she's seeing results, which makes me proud(er).

I got pointed to crossfit and simplefit by a guy on the net when I asked about fitness training. To the untrained me, simplefit was a lot more accessible (also, I had no weights, nor any idea how to use them). The obviously possible scaling was also important for me.

Then again, there's people here which scare (read: impress) me the same way as some of the people in the cf vids...

I have been a competitive athlete since I was a kid. I was usually the only female in the weight room. A lot of women do not have that background.

I have a friend who can do a plank for 4 minutes, has strong upper body strength, but refuses to believe she can do a push-up. A big mental block against "guy exercises". A lot of the exercise we do here intimidates.

There are some "women's" sites that actually have good programs. Women's Health magazine has a fairly good site as does Self magazine. RealAge.com has 20 min videos to follow.

I've also seen friends get completely ramped-up on BootCamps (in the park). I hope these suggestions help to spark some interest. And then, when they like training, get them back to SimpleFit!
