Thanks dj, but I have to confess that I am still substituting. After my 4 chinups, the rest were sets of negatives.

L3D1 tonight. Did 22 rounds, which tops my personal best by 1. I was able to do the first 5 chinups without subs. From that point on, I was doing one full chin and three negatives up until round 19, where I had to do all negatives.

I did take it a little easy tonight. I'm at the end of a cold and didn't want to push myself too hard.

L3D3 in 5:42. Could only do 3 chinups; the rest were sets of negatives. Kind of disappointed.

L3D1 last night. 22 rounds again, but didn't feel as strong as last time I did level 1. First five were full chinups, then I was doing 1 full and 3 subs until about round 16, where I had to do all subs. Kind of feels like I'm not progressing now, or maybe actually going backwards.

On Saturday, the day before my 47th birthday, I did L3D3 in 4:57. The first 5 were full chinups, which is a personal best. The remaining chinups were sets of negatives.

I was breathing so hard at the end that I could barely sip water for a couple of minutes. Once I did the five chinups, I pushed myself hard, and maybe a little too hard.

Nonetheless, I think I will level up anyway, although I expect to be at level 4 for quite awhile. The push ups and squats have been pretty easy for me up to this point. I don't see myself pushing that hard on day 3 just to "beat the clock"; instead I will work on improving form and increasing the actual amount of chinups I can do.

I notice that a lot of people do their day 3 chinups/pullups in sets instead of consecutively. With me, once I crank out as many as I can, it takes minutes to recover before I can do one or two more, and I feel obligated to do the negatives. I hope my ability to recover quickly will improve.

As it was my birthday this weekend, I ate a bunch of crap after my workout on Saturday. Just threw out the rest of the uneaten cake, and will jump back on the bandwagon again tomorrow.

congratulations on your birthday davarm - i trust you had a most enjoyable day!!!
instead I will work on improving form and increasing the actual amount of chinups I can do.

that is my approach as well - rather make sure you do the exercise correct, than merely chasing the clock.

Thanks for the support and words of encouragement, everybody.

Tonight I did L4D1, with a count of 19 rounds. I wasn't pushing too hard, and just wanted to set a baseline. It's not that much different than level 3; only adding one push up and one squat for a round.

I did L4D2 last night in 8:20. I'm trying to be a purist, so I'm doing all regular chinups and concentrating on form; no negatives. I'll probably continue to do negatives on Day 1 to maximize my workout in the 20 minute time frame.

Round 1: 4, 12, 20
Round 2: 4, 12, 20
Round 3: 3-1, 12, 20
Round 4: 3-1, 12, 20
Round 5: 2-1-1, 12, 20

I found in the later rounds that if I rested 15 seconds, I could crank out another chin up. The push ups are still pretty easy, but the squats are starting to get tough in the later rounds.

Chinups: 4-2-2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1
Pushups: 21-13-7
Squats: 30-11

When I got into single chinups, I was resting about 20 seconds between.

L4D1 => 18 rounds. One less than last time, but still a good workout.

After the first couple of rounds, still doing one full chin followed by 3 negatives.
