Level 6 - Week 1

Day 1: 25 rounds

So, after re-starting SF a couple weeks back, I promptly screwed something up in my shoulder. It wasn't terrible, but pull ups and push ups didn't feel so great. I gave it a bit to heal up and started things up again this week at level 6. I focused on keeping things smooth and in good form and managed to squeeze 25 rounds out. I had a soft goal of 20 rounds in my mind, so I'm happy with those results. And, most importantly, the shoulder did just fine. I'm back in the game!

Glad to hear the shoulder wasn't too problematic. It's important to be careful there.

25 L6D1 is more than respectable. Great work!

Well, my first week back on level 6 actually took about a week and a half to get through (schedules, laziness, etc.), but I got it done. Feel pretty good about my performance overall. I think my plan at this point is to not worry so much about hitting that 5 minute mark on day 3 but to focus on good form on all days and minimizing my rests on day 1. At some point, I'll get my times back down but, in the meantime, I'm perfectly happy sitting here at level 6 for as long as it takes.

That's a huge performance for L6. The 60 second rest strategy is very interesting. It looks like you are pretty close to L7.

Day 1: 30 rounds in 19:47
Day 2: not sure of the exact time, but each round was under one minute
Day 3: 5:07 (so close)
Pull-ups: 10, 6, 6, 5, 5
Push-ups: 40, 10, 14
Squats: 64

I think I would have beat level 5 this week if I had been more consistent with my workouts. I had way too long of a break between days 1 and 2, and did days 2 and 3 on consecutive days. I'm not sure why I'm struggling so much getting into a regular habit of working out. There always seems to be a reason to "just do it tomorrow instead" which, of course, usually ends up not happening either :)

I'm paddling that same boat, working to get back into a regular schedule. I like D2 best, so that is usually pretty easy to work in. D1 and D3 are more formidable so I have to get psyched up a bit more. That makes it easier to fall behind.

Still, you're right on the cusp of Level 7, which is a huge inspiration for the rest of us. Thanks for staying at it!

I followed by same plan as last week, sets of 5 with one-minute breaks in between. Like last time, I tried to focus more on good form and a steady pace vs just trying to bash out as many sets as possible. Overall, today felt really good. I think the self-imposed breaks help to keep me from burning out to early. Once I feel like each of my sets is really solid, I'll start focusing on reducing the break time between each set.

Day 3: 5:02

32 pull-ups: 10, 5, 5, 5, 4, 3
64 push-ups: 40, 24
64 squats: straight through

A little better than last week, but didn't quite make it. About 80% of my time was spent on those stupid pull-ups...I simply need to be able to do more of them without burning out so quickly. I think my plan, going forward is to:

1) Stay on level 6 as long as it takes to feel like I can do multiple, decent-sized, sets of pull-ups (i.e. 4 sets of 8) instead of one decent set and then struggling through a bunch of tiny sets.
2) Do at least some pull-ups every single day, not just SF days. I don't have a specific number in mind, I just want to try to get my body used to doing them.

Day 1: 27 rounds + 3 pull-ups and 6 push-ups. Did all exercises in 5-round sets, with a 60 second break between them.
Day 2: un-timed, just focused on good form
Day 3: 4:37
Pull-ups: 15, 7, 5, 5
Push-ups: 40, 15, 9
Squats: 64

So, I'm technically able to move up to level 7 next week, but I think I'm going to hang out in level 6 for a while and focus on increasing the number of sets I can do before I run out of gas. I'd like to start trying to reduce the break times between my rounds on day 1 and evening out my set sizes on day 3 (i.e. pull-ups in sets of 12, 10 and 10).

I like your scheduled break plan. I should probably start it. Your doing more Rounds in day one with a break every five rounds. My round time starts getting longer after fifteen and increases to finish.

I have been increasing the number of pull ups in each round on Day 2, went from 6 to 8 the next week to 10 this week. I am hoping that the increased reps will improve the day three number. We will see.

I agree with your not jumping to Level Seven. Having done a couple of weeks of it before I had my relapse adding 8 Pull ups, and 16 Push-up and squats was intimidating to me.

If I was not so short winded form smoking in my wasted youth this would be a lot more fun.
