Best way to begin swimming?

Postby scorxn » Mon Apr 02, 2007 8:58 pm

I'm going out of town this weekend and will have free access to a health club. I've never swum for fitness before, and really want to give it a shot. I know swimming has come up a few times, so hopefully someone's got pointers for a beginner. That is, I'm too lazy to do my own research ;)

So, what's the best way to start?

Well like just about any exercise you can maximize its impact with intervals

try ranges between 20 sec on 10 off and 2 min on 1 off and see how you feel

Let us know how it goes, just don't get a cramp and drown ;)

lol. Better add "If cramping and about to drown, put your feet down" to the FAQ.

Don't "fight" the water.
Get some good goggles (I prefer silicon gasket instead of the foam type).
Try using different strokes if you get bored.
