I'm considering switching to a 5:2 workout schedule: Simplefit on Mon, Wed and Fri, and SS on Tue and Thu; with the weekend for rest.
Since I don't have a bench, I'd skip bench presses with SS, and thus alternate between two days with two exercises each (say, like Squat/Deadlift - Power Clean/Press). SS would therefore be a bit lighter than the by-the-book version.
What do you think? Would that cut the rest too short? Or should I just try it out and see what happens?

I'm sorry - SS stands for "Starting Strength." It's a book/program by Mark Rippetoe, and it's about building up strength with a few basic barbell exercises. It's targeted at beginners, and pretty good.
The book offers very good explanations on how to improve, among other things, squat form.
