Should I advance to level 3?

Postby scrman » Fri Feb 19, 2010 9:38 am

Howdy guys,

I've been on level 2 now for three weeks, and I can perform day 3 in less than 5 minutes. BUT, that is not doing proper pullups. I can use the handles on my door gym, or do negative pullups, or Australian pullups, but "real" pullups (or chinups) I'm limited to two so far.

So my question is, should I continue on to level 3, continuing to do pullup alternatives, or wait until I can do the pullups?

I'm currently at 221 lbs, started at 232 at the beginning of the year.

Thanks!

If you can do one pull-up, you can do Day 3 with pull-ups:

You do 1 pull-up.
You rest until you can do another.
Repeat.

Obviously, your time will be poor (you must include rest in your time), but you will advance quickly.

Agree - don't move forward until you have real pullups.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm happy to report that when I did Day 1 of level 2 yesterday, I was able to do 5 passable pull ups! Nobody could be more surprised than me.

Thanks again.

Seriously? Now I feel like I should go back to level 1.

It's up to you. I won't come find you and point you out! HA!

That was just my attitude about it. Kept me from burning out.

I think that focusing on doing real pullups (or chinups) is the best not only for training but also for personal satisfaction :P

so does the "day 3 under 5 minutes" rule hold for all levels?

I'm working at level 6, time is 15:45. sub 5 minutes seems like a pretty steep goal.
