Actually, on point #1, I used to do it with no rest. Then a few weeks ago, I started doing it as Rx'd. I think if anything, more rest is a good thing on that day. Day 1 is the endurance day. Let day 2 be what it's suppose to be: strength.
On point #2, if it makes you feel any better, I have never done the pullups or pushups on day 3 as a single set. Always had to stop and rest even if for a second.
