Assisted Pull-up Machine: How Many Reps?

Postby Beefcake » Tue May 22, 2012 5:42 pm

Still on level one (2nd week) but using a gravitron type machine for assisted pull-ups. When using this machine, should I use an assisted weight that allows me to do 3 pull-ups at a time (i.e. at the pull-up substitution rate of 3:1) or should I set it to a weight that allows one challenging pull-up? Welcome your thoughts.

I would do the prescribed number of reps (don't use the substitution rate) with the minimum amount of assistance.

Be sure to try unassisted pull-ups regularly. As soon as you can do 1, stop using the Gravitron and do only unassisted real pull-ups.
