Deadhang Pull-ups?

Post by bobcuzi » Mon Jul 23, 2007 12:41 pm

Hey all,

Just wondering if any of you do pull-ups from a dead hang? Meaning for each pull-up, return to a complete dead hang (is this correct form?), and then pull-up.

Any thoughts, links, personal experience, etc.?

(I actually don't do complete dead hangs, wondering what you guys do)

I try to do dead hang as much as possible. In case you didn't see the video, I really can't do much kipping. If I am on a run of, say 4 or 5 pullups back-to-back I lose form and tend to cheat on how low I go. I try not to do this. Once I get a good pullup bar built, I'll have no problem with kipping when it gets tough. I think that, as long as I go for dead-hang first, kipping the last few is ok (especially on D3).

IMHO

can't do them yet, but I intend to always do a dead-hang... I fully extend with bodyrows to get my shoulders ready for this.

Yeah, they are MUCH harder than a "hack" pull-up as I guess I've been doing ...

I wonder if I should drop down to Level 3 and redo (start-over) with complete dead-hangs. (It is probably going to butcher my times and progress 8) ). Thoughts?

Also, what do you guys mean when you refer to "kipping" (is that when you kind of kick your body to help you pull-up? I think I've seen this in some crossfit videos [especially during the muscle ups])

On the other matter, I don't know. How are your push-ups/squats?

Push-ups and Squats are pretty strong with good form, but I don't think it will take long for me to get my pull-ups back to where I was at ...

What I think I'll do is finish out this week (i.e. tomorrow) with L6D3 and then go back down and try level 3 with dead-hang pull-ups.
