100 Burpee Challenge
I think I was browsing over at RossTraining when I saw the 100 Burpee Challenge which is simply the time it takes to do 100 Burpees. Since I'm on a "rest" week I decided to try it this morning. As people have different definitions of burpees, these are the ones with a full pushup on the bottom and a regular jump at the top.
This morning I got a 14:57.
I would say the hardest ones were in the 50-75 range because I just finished 50 and realized that I was only half way there, then at 75 I started to realize that 100 was feasible and a goal was in sight, making it a bit easier.
Anybody feel like doing 100 Burpees?

I've been meaning to include burpees for a while now and I have a rest week coming up. I'm currently on L4 but I've been throwing in some other crossfit exercises like thrusters so this should be real interesting. I'll let you know how it goes, assuming that I can make it up off the floor afterwards.
Awesome. Yeah, basically hit the first 15, took a break, then I did 10 more, then it was pretty much sets of 5 after than. Just enough rest to catch my breath. On some of the reps it felt like my legs forgot how to jump.
My goal on these is to get it done in 10 minutes or less. 10 a minute for 10 minutes would be an excellent score.

Ha ha! I know exactly what you mean!On some of the reps it felt like my legs forgot how to jump.
I thought I'd do much better than I did. 10 reps in a minute doesn't seem like anything at all. But man you sure to need a lot of time to catch your breath. My heart was pounding hard during this workout.

Did this challenge today, 12:25.

Did this as my workout today.
22:40.
I am a fat F*#%$&, but I did it. Basically started in sets of ten up to about 40, then subset seven/three until 70, then 5 until 90, and banged out the last ten heaving and near failure. Gameplan for next time- better pacing on both sets and breaks; I could've pushed a lot harder than I did.
I'll try it again in a week, see how it goes.

Dude, there are no failures only results. 22:40 is better than a majority of the population could manage. Most couldn't do 100 Burpees in 24 hours.
I love this challenge. It's intense, it's dynamic, make me breathe harder than anything, sweat pours off me, and it has a simple goal, beat your last time. I'm going for a sub-10 minute and I'll be happy. I'm going to be so happy when I reach that goal. If you can do 10 Burpees a minute for 10 minutes, you're in shape, pure and simple, no debate.
Great exercise and great effort. Keep at it.

I just got finished with 100 Burpees in 9:30! Rather, I just got finished puking in garbage can, but before that I did the 100 Burpees. The previous time I was just striving to beat the 14 minutes. When I came in 2 minutes under that, I felt like, what the hell, let's go all out and see what happens.

Congrats on your personal best, you beast! The mind is truly your greatest ally or enemy when you're really pushing yourself.
I still get nervous about Pukie, though. I just don't think it is healthy to work out until you puke. Nauseous, sure, everyone gets there sometimes, but there is something I feel that is patently unhealthy about pushing your body to the point of emesis. It's like training to failure; it just seems like to great a stress on the body to me.
Just be careful, is all I'm saying.
But damn, 9:30?
Damn. This... is... SPARTA!

I haven't done that in a while. I didn't have anything in my stomach. I really wasn't feeling nauseous. I know that feeling, I've gotten that before when doing a lot of heavy leg work. Like all the blood rushes to your legs and makes you light headed and sick to your stomach.
No, this was more along the lines like I felt the need to cough afterwards but couldn't catch my breath to get a good cough and clear my throat. It felt like the vomit reflex kicked in because I couldn't cough, like it was my body's Plan B.
Anyway, I know some people try to train to the point of puking, that's not something I really shoot for
. But after I hit 50 burpees, I saw the timer was at 4:20 and figured I could hit my goal if I just put it into gear, damn the consequences.
Next exercise, How about Pull-up Burpees? I'll have to wait until I get flooring but that's got to be a great exercise adding a pull-up at the top of the burpee.
