Home Cardio Machine Opinions?

Postby firedepot » Mon Dec 31, 2007 9:45 am

Ok, now my wife is showing some interest in the program, and is looking at home cardio equipment. She is comparing treadmills vs. recumbent bikes vs. elliptical machines on the Nautilus website. I like the treadmill myself, and I don't have alot of experience on the bikes or ellpticals. Personally, I can't stand the ellipticals. Heart rate is heart rate, and the only difference to me would be the impact on joints.

Anybody care to share their opinions?

As long as she gets the intensity up around 90% equipment is pretty arbitrary
she can do 1 on and 5 mellow 5-8 times she will be in good shape.

I have an upright bike - cost around $150 at Play-it-Again Sports. Also, I purchased a used Tunturi Air Rower a while back.

I use the bike if my workout will use a lot of pulling.

As far as a purely "cardio" workout goes, the rower wins by a LONG shot.

I would have a treadmill, but they kill my shins.

Just my 2!

If the goal is to get your wife to workout, let her pick the machine. Like you said, you can get a good workout on any of them, so it doesn't matter much what you get.

I think for my money, I would say a rowing machine. Full body workout, great to warm up on, and works muscles you never thought you had PLUS almost no impact. Best value by far, in my opinion.
