I think you would probably see better results cutting fat filling your carb needs from vegetables and fruit.

People from crossfit, performance menu, and myself have had great results eating zone macro nutrient ratios from paleo food sources essentially what I outlined in the nutrition section http://www.simplefit.org/nutrition.html here is more good info on paleo eating

This is actually a great simple resource

That said, it is about lifestyle change, it needs to be something you can live with so if you need chili once in a while go for it.

I also enjoy beans in my diet and use them as a source of protein by combining them with other foods (since they are an incomplete protein source on their own). I’ve only recently switched from regular weightlifting to simple/crossfit training but I haven’t quite switched my diet over to what is recommended with crossfit, so I still sneak beans in once in a while 😉

Beans are not really a great source of protein as the protein they contain is encapsulated in fiber so the bio availability is extremely low it is probably best to view them as a carbohydrate source.

    Hi Kevin,

Agreed. I’m by no means a vegetarian so I get plenty of protein from other sources, but I thought, based on articles that I’ve read, that by combining beans with the proper combination of foods you could slightly increase the bioavailability of the protein present. I’ve been reading up on this and it appears that this may be a myth. Thanks for setting me straight.
