Form vs intensity

    Hey Guys

    I’ve been doing the following bodyweight exercises:

    5 pull-ups + 15 squats x 8

    5 pull-ups + 12 push-ups x 8

    In between I rest until I feel comfortable/confident I’ll do the pull-ups in good form. This pushes my workout to about 40 minutes or so.

    Two days ago I tried a tabata type structure hoping to decrease the time spent on working out:

    pull-ups

    squats

    pull-ups

    plank

    Thing is, with the decreased rest I end up doing pull-ups with less range of motion so I was wondering, if I keep at this format, will my form/strength/endurance increase and achieve better results than if I stick to my old slow and steady format?

    Anyone with similar experiences?

    Also, what sort of results will I see if I stick to the slow and steady routine and after how long? On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being Frank Medrano? 😆 Been at it for about a month and a half now and making progress ito strength, started off with sets of 3 pull-ups.

    So this is a hard question to answer your gonna see people everywhere swear up and down that that perfect form is the only way to go and then your gonna have the other people that say some slop is ok. I look at it this way, a little slop is fine as long as you are putting in the work eventually once your muscular endurance is at an adequate level you can take it drop down a couple of levels and start from there with perfect form. Perfect form is all good in my opinion when your ultimate goal is pure strength but if your also looking for speed, and muscular endurance I just don’t see having perfect form all the time. There is people that will claim having perfect form but than reps or range will not be that great. For me the only day I have super strict form is the strength day the other days I am more concerned with speed and probably have about 80-85% good form. So these are my takes on it and I have probably been doing calisthenics for 12-14 years, take everything I say with a grain of salt and do some experimentation to see what you like the best. Some people due to injuries or muscular imbalances or whatever will have to do exercises super strict and some people will be able to get away with the bad form. I am probably confusing you but I hope it helped a little

    Oh yeah with the results If you do the workouts and fix your diet I say probably at around a 7 Frank Medrano is a beast and I am sure he works out more than 3 hours a week. Have a great day!

    You’ve provided more help than confusion ;)

    I’m training for an obstacle race so I think building speed and muscular endurance will help more. Will add some slop, thanks again for the info!

    Good luck on the obstacle race you will definitely need the muscular endurance for that. I am pretty confident that simplefit can help with your goals.
