Paleo Diet

Post by stephenmorrow »

Is this for real, does it work? Where do you get calcium from if you arent eating dairy such as milk? And what about whole grains i thought they were healthy for you

It works because it eliminates or reduces insulin spikes (and the troughs that follow) by eliminating foods that cause these spikes, chiefly carbohydrates.

Get your calcium elsewhere...like broccoli and sesame seeds, for instance.

Mark Sisson of Mark's Daily Apple promotes a variant of the Paleo Diet which he calls the Primal Blueprint.

I am a fan.

The main distinction between Paleo and Primal is that Sisson believes a higher fat intake is, by and large, a good thing. This makes sense to me. I don't think that our ancestors would have avoided fat. I think they would have eaten it whenever it was available. (Dr. Cordain, who developed the Paleo Diet, believes fat was not as available then as it is now and he is probably right. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't eat fats that resemble those that would have been available to our ancestors. So don't eat a lot of fat from conventionally-raised beef, don't eat weird-ass vegetable oils, but grass-fed organic beef, avocados, nuts, are OK!)

Bone up with Dr. Cordain and Mark.

In any case, the best evidence is your own experience. Why not give it a try?

I gave up drinking milk before I was 10 because of an allergy, but I eat yogurt and some cheese, and I do put cream in my coffee.

Honestly, I do miss grains.
Bread and pasta are so wonderful. How can eating them be wrong?
But I don't crave them and, most importantly, I am happy with the results of eating Primal.

The people back then ate those foods because thats all they had to eat in the environment they lived in, humans arent "meant" to eat those foods, they ate back then for the sake of hunger not nutrition, they didnt care what they ate, if they saw a big ass french roll and a bowl of pasta for sure as hell they would eat it because it is food and its energy

I eat oats and drink milk every morning, it gives me lots of energy and protein throughout the day, i see nothing wrong with that completely healthy

Yeah, they would have some serious stomach ache and would struggle digesting and passing it lol!

That is the point in paleo/primal lifestyles, they aim to shift your eating to naturally sourced unprocessed foods stuffs that can be digested correctly by your body that has not evolved much as the food available today!!

Your assumption that early man was stupid and would eat anything he could fit in his mouth may or may not be true, but it does not negate the fact that our bodies evolved to digest the types of food that were available and most of that evolution took place before grains became part of our diet.

Homo sapiens appeared 200,000 years ago.
Agriculture began 10,000 years ago.

You don't have to change the way you eat. That is up to you. I just want to clear up your misunderstanding of the ideas behind Paleo and Primal eating.

I have given you basic arguments behind the Paleo diet and provided links. If you really want to understand, then you'll need to do a little reading.

Think of it this way, if you put regular unleaded in a high performance race car it may run but would you want to if your goal was to drive as far and as fast as possible?

Alright i guess i can give it a try, no dairy and grains. But still, there is nowhere to get all this organic grass fed beef anywhere near me, i'll just buy the meat from the meat section, same with fruit and veggies
