Hormonal status primarily insulin level is probably going to be a greater determinant of body composition than calories in calories out.
Eliminate refined carbohydrates from your diet and calories will not really matter.

the body's natural state is paleo/low insulin so I think natural is best which man not mean "big" but it does mean healthy.
