What is your opinion on Crossfit?

Post by linuxguy0481 »

Not trying to start a flame war. I've just been bitten by the Crossfit bug. I love how it changes everyday, you work in a team environment, you have a personal trainer to look at your form and to guide you to being stronger and more fit each time you show at Crossfit. I'm a student so for my local Crossfit Gym its $85 a month. That's $1,020 a year. So not sure if joining is worth it. I'm still contemplating it. I work full time and go to school full time. So I will have to wake up early in the morning. They open at 5:30 in the morning and I have to be at my job at 8 in the morning. I will be busy all day. I do like being busy though.

So not sure really. That's why I need your advice. Should I do it or stick with SimpleFit until I reach a certain level with SimpleFit?

By the way I tried doing a forum search with just the term "Crossfit" and it came back telling me it's too common name. Try something different.

I like crossfit and graduated to doing the crossfit WODs after a year of simplefit. I didn't attend a crossfit gym, I just did them at home with the equipment I had. I think crossfit is a great way to acheive overall fitness, but like others have said, with crossfit you get fit, but you won't excel at anything. What I mean is that by doing the crossfit workouts you'll be able to do Olympic lifts and run but chances are you won't win any weight lifting competitions or win any races. If your goal is general fitness, then do crossfit. If your goal is to run a marathon, then run. If your goal is to move heavy weights, then weight lift. It comes down to what your goals are. And there's nothing saying you can't change your goals a year from now after having done a year of crossfit.

The beauty of simplefit is that it's free and accessible to everyone. If I was going to spend over a grand a year I'd join a martial arts gym. That way you get whipped into incredible shape AND you learn a great skill.
