41 pushups in 1:40?
For me to pass L4, my computations say that I have to complete 41 pushups in 1m and 40s. That appears highly improbable in my state. What do you think? Have you done it?

Sure it can be done, just keep at it, working on improving your pushup endurance. Not stopping is a big component in getting under allotted times. But if you are getting frustrated and are hitting a plateau, there is nothing wrong with modifying to help get over the hump. I did it with pull-ups because I suck at them. I was really struggling to even come close to L5, so I added a modification when I ran into trouble. There is no crime in doing that. I see you already modify your pull-ups, so do it with pushups as well. One idea is when you run into trouble, around rep 18 I see, go to your knees and lift your feet off the ground. It helps but you still get a nice workout. This will help condition your chest and arms a little more aerobically. You don't have to go to the next level if you don't want to, you could try this a few weeks until you can do 41 regular pushups in your allotted time, but this will help work on the speed of your pushups. That's just one idea. I'm sure there are others. But good luck and keep with it.

It took me 8 months to go from 3m 40s down to 1m 47s for 41 D3 pushups. I am ecstatic, didn't think I could do it. What worked for me were
1. Keep 25 as a target for the first set.
2. Keep increasing the second set target slowly.
3. Persist, keep at it.

That's awesome man. You are most definitely a driven person. Before I was really into pushups I could not not even eek out 20 pushups but that all changed in high school while part of the njrotc physical fitness team. Through consistent practice I was able to get to a point where I could do 128 pushups in 2 minutes. So a little over 1 a second. Like you it just took determination to get to that point, and you have that in spades so keep plugging away and there is no limit to what you can do.

Re: 41 pushups in 1:40?
It has been 4.5 months since my last post in this thread. I am happy to say that my D3 41 push up time has fallen below 1m 40s. I haven't been focusing on improving those times but in spite of the increase in the pull ups in the first set and the muscle burn that comes with it, I still am able to keep up and better the push up times. For any that may get disheartened with not seeing visible progress in their times, I hope my experience helps.
Cherish every second reduction in your times. What you have been doing is not an easy thing.
Be patient. The seconds add up. In an year or two, you'd complete your level.

Going fast only looks cool. But really is not as beneficial as going slow and controlled. Anyway to go faster you need to increase your explosiveness

Yes.. going slow and controlled is much more difficult than going fast and hence more beneficial. In the end, it all comes down to how much time is being spent on the exercise. One minute of slow and controlled or one minute of fast reps are more or less the same.. one minute of exercise and probably provides the same benefit. That is my guess. But here is my learning.. I could not go fast in the beginning. As I became stronger, I could go faster. So, going fast is a measurement of how far I came along and is a reasonable measurement to be used in D3.
